10 things to look forward to for ASU Family Weekend 2019

Nov. 8–10 is ASU Family Weekend! Put down the books for a few days and join other ASU families for a weekend of fun and spirit! 

Here is our list of 10 events you should definitely check out with your family. Be sure to check out the full list of ASU Family Weekend events. 

Don’t forget to register online for Family Weekend and most importantly, show your family how much fun life at ASU is!

1. Low Rider Car Show

Experience the Low Rider Car Show at ASU’s West campus on Friday, Nov. 8, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Sun Devil Fitness Complex. Sponsored by the Hispanic Honor Society, the event will feature a wide variety of artistic low rider cars and tell the story of their cultural significance for Latinx Arizonans.  

2. Movie at the Post Office

If you and your family will be at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus on Friday, Nov. 8, join other Sun Devils for the Movie at the Post Office. A family friendly movie will be screened at 7 p.m. at the Student Center at the Post Office for everyone to enjoy! 

3. Polytechnic Family Weekend Fall Fest & BBQ

Arrive with your appetite. The Fall Fest and BBQ is being held on the Polytechnic campus on Friday, Nov. 8, 5:30–7 p.m. Come for some amazing food and fall games! 

4. MU After Dark: Devils Night in Downtown Tempe

Check out a Family Weekend edition of MU (Memorial Union) After Dark when this Tempe campus staple makes a special appearance at Centerpoint in Downtown Tempe from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8. Enjoy family friendly arts and crafts activities and small carnival games while learning about ASU and Tempe resources. 

5. The blackout football game 

Come support the Sun Devils as they face USC on Saturday, Nov. 9. Remember students can #IgnitetheInferno in the student section for free. Three hours before the game join other ASU students and faculty at the Devils on Mill tailgate. 

Remember to wear black for this blackout game, and honor our veterans and service members during ASU’s Salute to Service. Keep an eye out for the special delivery: a black hawk helicopter will land on the field at halftime.

6. Gold Rush obstacle course 

Make sure to wake up bright and early on Saturday, Nov. 9, for the Gold Rush obstacle course at the Tempe campus at 8 a.m. at the Sun Devil Fitness Complex. There is a fee of $5 to participate. Sponsored by Sun Devil Fitness and ASU Wellness, the obstacles are a fun activity for the whole family to get some exercise and compete to be the winning clan! 

7. Spirit Hike

Join the ASU community for the annual spirit hike on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 8 to 9 a.m. Make sure you register online! This is one event you definitely don’t want to miss. Who wouldn’t want to hike up Tempe Butte with Sparky? Meet at the base of “A” mountain at 8 a.m.! 

8. Playfest

Are you or one of your family members the creative type? Everyone is! All families are welcome to unleash their inner artist at Playfest at the ASU Art Museum. The fun begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 and continues through 3 p.m.The event is free and you will be able to keep whatever art you make! 

9. Native American Heritage Festival 

You won’t want to miss this annual event at the West campus. The Native American Heritage Festival is a day-long community celebration presented annually on Fletcher Lawn, just north of the library. Stop by between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, and celebrate Native American heritage and honor U.S veterans. There will be food trucks, art demonstrations, vendors, dancing and activities for kids. 

10. Celebrate Sun Devil women’s hoops and volleyball

Make the most of the long weekend by including Sun Devil Athletics in your plans for Sunday, Nov. 10, by supporting the ASU women’s volleyball team and ASU’s 20th-ranked women’s basketball team. At noon at Desert Financial Arena, the women’s volleyball team will take on California, and women’s basketball will take the court at 5 p.m. against Army in the same location. Tickets are required for both games, but if you register for Family Weekend, you can get your tickets at a discounted price!
