ASU Student Life editor’s picks: Best of Carmen De Alba
My name is Carmen De Alba Cardenas, and I am a spring 2021 ASU graduate. I earned a B.A. in journalism and mass communication with a focus in public relations and a certificate in sales and marketing.
I have been a Sun Devil storyteller writing for ASU Student Life since June 2019, and it has been a privilege to share the stories of the amazing students here at ASU.

Carmen De Alba Cardenas, 20, graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Every story that I wrote allowed me to learn something new and appreciate a unique perspective. Here are some of my favorites:
The international elite players of the ASU women’s soccer team
Getting to interview these incredibly talented soccer players is such a great memory for me, especially because it was one of the first stories I ever wrote for ASU Student Life.
Immigration reform event bridges analysis and the experience of ASU students
As a child of immigrant parents, getting to speak with Charles Kamasaki about immigration reform and how it affects students in Arizona was very profound. I learned so much from him and got to be around other students with similar situations.
Sun Devil-founded Christmas tree business gives back
I loved writing stories about students who started their own business while still in school. These Sun Devils not only started such a convenient service but gave back to their community during the holidays, which can be tough for many families. It was a pleasure to talk with them and get the word out on their incredible business!
ASU’s disability resources helped this Sun Devil after addiction and injury
Chellis’ story is one I will never forget. Having the chance to speak with him and understand his journey with injury and addiction was very special. I am glad I was able to share his journey with the ASU community.
