ASU’s most urban campus is embedded in the culture and heart of Phoenix, including beautiful public art. You can explore the area around ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus by checking out local murals. This mural walk allows explorers to discover some of the most striking murals just north of the Downtown campus on foot.
Here are six mural spots guaranteed to make you think, have a photo op and make you say wow.

“Mother Nature and her Children”
Valley Youth Theater, 525 N. 1st St., Phoenix
This mural was done by a team of artists including Jeff Slim, Kim Smith, Xochitl Enriques, Angel Diaz, Averian Chee and the Cyphers Center for Urban Art. The team was organized by the Water Writes Program as part of their international mural series. The goal of the program is to raise awareness of water issues.
This large mural is depicted on the side of the Valley Youth Theater, just north of ASU’s Cronkite building. The mural stretches about 2,500 square feet.
“Convergence”
198 E. Garfield St.
This mural, titled “Convergence,” is by Laura Spalding Best.
Located just east of The Churchill, this mural is depicted on a wall that runs along Garfield Street. Brown utility lines form a semicircle against a blue background. A photo of someone standing in the center of the artwork could give the illusion that power lines are coming out of them.
The Alley of Art

Don’t miss this mural hotspot. See over six different murals all in one alley! Get your cameras ready; this spot contains some of the most photogenic wall scenes in Phoenix. These murals are located just behind The Churchill and can be seen on walls on all sides as you walk through the alley.

Art, Birds and Butterfly Wings
M.O. Best Mini Park, 1021 N. 2nd St, Phoenix
Check out what augmented reality art is like in this mini park space. Along with two large murals, explorers can try out an interactive mural that was designed in 2018 to encourage citizens to vote. Pose against colorful wings and use the Shazam app to watch the photo come to life! Directions can be found on the wall next to the mural.

Carly’s Bistro Art
Carly’s Bistro, 128 E. Roosevelt St., Phoenix
This mural is titled “Carly’s” and is by @Atodamuerte.
This mural is located on the north side of Carly’s Bistro. The only way to explain this piece of art is that it contains skeleton features, city buildings and the word Carly’s painted in red.
“Cosmic Paradise”

This mural, “Cosmic Paradise,” was created by Ashley Macias, @Yaicecream and @Highlikevolar.
This unique mural includes a mix of what can be described as alien plant life, eyeballs and maybe space? It can be viewed from the south side of Sutra Studios.
