Out at ASU Week 2019 celebrates and supports LGBTQ+ pride
Out at ASU Week occurred across all four campuses from October 7–11. It was a spirited week of celebrating and supporting the LGBTQ+ community at ASU with fun events all week long.
Some of these events included the pride pool party, a film screening of the documentary “Queer Japan,” a tie-dye party and many others.
Gage Clow, an anthropology and justice studies major in his third year at ASU, is the director of programs for the Barrett LGBT+ club.
Clow believes that Out at ASU Week generates a sense of community on campus for those who identify as LGBTQ+ as well as those who are allies.
Clow came to ASU fully out and during his first year, he and a few of his friends revived the Barrett LGBT+ club.
Clow says that the Barrett LGBT+ Club is a “student organization on campus that primarily serves Barrett LGBT and allied students, but we are open to everyone because we want to be as inclusive as possible.”
Andrew John Delossantos is a second-year grad student working toward his master’s in sustainability. Delossantos helped run the Wall of Misconceptions event during Out at ASU week.
The Wall of Misconceptions was presented in the event space outside the Memorial Union on ASU’s Tempe campus, where students came and shared misconceptions about the LGBTQ+ community that they had heard or experienced before.
During Out at ASU Week, Delossantos wanted to celebrate the community, spread the love and get more students involved with the community.
