Sun Devils get ready to vote: Where to cast your ballot on campus in the midterm elections

3 minutes

During the 2020 election, college and university students turned out in record numbers to vote, with the average institutional voting rate up 66 percent from 2016. And with the 2022 midterms rapidly approaching, student turnout is expected to remain high.

These statistics, found in the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement, signal college voters are vested in their future and that of our nation. Also important to note is the 80 percent increase of already-registered students who then followed through with actually voting. The rate of registered students remained relatively the same from 2016 to 2020; thus, these statistics show a marked improvement in the number of ballots being cast. Pollsters believe the midterm elections will also show an improvement in the number of college-age registered voters who cast ballots.

ASU campuses are again designated as early voting and day-of-election polling places for students, staff and the public starting October 12. Unsure of your status to vote in the upcoming midterm elections? Visit the Maricopa County recorder’s office to check your voter status, see what types of voter IDs are needed to cast a ballot, download a digital copy of your voter registration card, and other important information.

Students with scholarships or tuition that require residency should check with the ASU Financial Aid and Scholarship Services before registering to vote in their home state. As an example, if Sun Devils have a scholarship that requires Arizona residency, they should ensure that registering to vote in a different state will not affect their status.
