You GOAL Girl: Sun Devil’s nonprofit empowers women and girls

“I’m usually a girl with a plan,” said Sun Devil Cache Castelow.

But now a third-year mass communications major with a minor in media analysis, in 2015 Castelow was in dire need of an ambition transplant.

“Around that time, I said, I need to seek something to get my plans back going and have some momentum,” Castelow said.

Chasing inspiration, Castelow fired up a few Oprah videos on YouTube and by 2016 she made her first vision board.

“Putting so much energy into the board, manifesting it, figuring out what your next tasks are and being goal oriented,” Castelow said. “I realized I love that side of me.”

Castelow never doubted her own capabilities; she only needed to tap into her own brand of success and prosperity. That’s exactly what she did. By 2017, Castelow was hosting her own vision board event through her nonprofit Goal Get It: Vision Workshops.

In the pre-COVID era, Castelow would bring art supplies to the public library. Then, she and the attendees would literally craft their goals.

“The cool thing about it is I would not charge anything,” Castelow said. “The main purpose was to cultivate a space where women and children can network and be creative.”

Goal Get It started off as a series. Luckily, Castelow’s mother got her to broaden it to the recurring workshop program it is now.

“I write a gratitude journal. I make a gratitude jar,” Castelow said. “There’s so much other stuff I do for self-care, and I figured there’s other workshops I can have to expand the name.”

Castelow’s entrepreneurial spirit is on 10, and it doesn’t take away from her Sun Devil spirit one bit. Just like Goal Get It: Vision Workshops, ASU motivated her in ways she didn’t foresee.

“It filled a void of not having instant gratification and learning how to be patient and how to look out for resources,” Castelow said. “I was doing something with my life; I was going toward a mark”

From struggling to apply her passions to nurturing a space where people can discover their own; Castelow said Luke 12:48 had been a guiding mantra.

“To whom much is given, of him shall much be required.”

Castelow hosted her first post-COVID event on January 17. Check out the Goal Get It: Vision Board Workshops Instagram page.
