Students fueled up for the last stretch at Finals Breakfast
On April 24, ASU faculty and staff served a late-night breakfast feast to students at eight dining halls across all ASU campuses. Finals Breakfast is a tradition that marks the end of classes each semester and provides students a chance to refuel before finals. Faculty and staff serve the food as a way to show their support for students going into the final stretch of the semester.
The free events featured relaxation activities, giveaways, tutoring and study resources. More than 3,500 students at different campuses were coloring, playing skeeball, playing basketball and more.
At the Taylor Place event at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus, ASU students were gearing up for a week of finals before summer break.
Simur Khurana, a kinesiology major, said he was pretty stressed going into finals week. But he stopped by the event to fuel up. “I showed up hungry!” he said.
Sophomore nursing major Lauren Aldana was feeling pretty good about finals and had made Finals Breakfast a tradition with her friends.
“I came to Finals Breakfast because we came last year as a group because we live in Taylor Place. So I figured coming down having breakfast for dinner would be nice,” she said.
Adam Noel, a sports journalism major, was part of the group who came last year.
“I finished up a studio show at Cronkite at 8,” he said. “I hadn’t eaten dinner, and I saw all the people and I figured breakfast would be a good dinner.”
He said the weekend would be stressful studying for his two finals, but he felt pretty confident.
Every semester, students help bring Finals Breakfast to life on each ASU campus. Shannon O’Toole, who is pursuing her master’s in higher and postsecondary education, worked with other students, departments and academic colleges to bring the event to life.
O’Toole is a management intern for Student Events and Programming and said Finals Breakfast is a fun chance to unwind before finals.
“This event is an amazing way for ASU faculty and staff to show their support for their students during finals week. It also gives students the opportunity to take a break from finals, while building connections with their fellow Sun Devils,” she said.
