Sun Devils, pick up your free mask and more at the bookstore

The health of the Sun Devil community is a top priority at ASU. That’s why it’s important for Arizona State University students to have the tools they need on hand to be part of the solution to COVID-19. And the Community of Care kits that any student can pick up for free on all campuses have students covered.

You can go now to Sun Devil Campus Stores on each of ASU’s metropolitan Phoenix campuses to get your kit of free cloth face coverings, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and a thermometer. Present your ASU ID to claim one, whether you’re a first-year student or a returning Sun Devil (bonus: you can grab a new kit even if you got one last year!).

The kits have proven useful to students given the new normal of masking and sanitizing. Senior Riley Fahrenholz, who is studying political science, said he still carries his hand sanitizer from last year’s kit in his bag. 

“I usually keep my spare masks in my car so it was really nice to have an extra one like if I forgot one at home or forgot to take one with me. I would have a backup one,” he said. 

Fahrenholz also said the wipes are useful for wiping down his phone. Having a thermometer on hand is also helpful for students to be able to monitor their health and stay home if they’re feeling ill. 

Having an ASU-branded mask is another perk of picking up the kits, said kinesiology junior Emma Hayden. 

“I liked that they gave us two masks that were simple but still had a little pitchfork on it,” she said. “It’s definitely nice that we get something for free; it’s really worth picking up.”

Convenience was also a factor for graphic design senior Trevor Chalupnik, who said the kits were easy to access and avoided some of the shortages that have come up in health and safety products in the last year. 

“It just made it easy to have everything in one place instead of going out and trying to find it all myself, especially when supplies were running low,” he said.
